I like the name. 042 is number code for Enugu, which I think has become synonymous for the East.
But why do you think people won’t be interested to hear of stories specifically out of the Eastern regions, even if its about her juvenile entertainment scene.
Linda makes news by telling us about a mental person standing on Ajose, VI. I won’t squint any harder from a hurting head, if I see a news about the same Mad man at Michael Junction, Opieweka.
I remember Champion Newspaper used to run their Eastern prints out of Lagos when their Owerri house ran out of paper or machine broke down which was too often, while their distribution had little relevance in Lagos, the Eastern region still thought of the print as of value because they covered the East better than any of the serious prints. It covered their triumph and woes, hence they owned it as theirs.
So almost every midnight 2am, a Driver does the trip from Ilasa to Onitsha. You should see their faces some nights.
Add crowd sourced journalism to the mix, for the promise of a mention, people will send you local exclusives as its happening via text message. Top that with a 100 naira airtime gift and voilà.
Point is we’ve got to start doing things differently, a blog isn’t a fad anymore, curating lazy 50 words of content - no puns, no squibs- all in the name of news is already a thing, and I must add, a very annoying thing for that matter.
