Yabacon Valley? Yaba Right? What do you think Nigeria’s tech space be called?
Personally, I love “techosystem” (Oo Nwoye I sight you). Dunno if it’ll be a befitting name though!

Honestly I dislike both names.
Yabacon Valley lacks originality while the other reminds me of mad people. But if I’m to choose, I would say Yaba Right. Techcal and @lordbanks should please take note.
Techosystem is obviously derived from concatenating Technology and ecosystem. It says nothing about the location, or the businesses in it so I’m not sure how that can ever be considered a good name for the cluster you’re referring to.
Yabacon Valley is just stupid.
My thoughts? Keep calling it what it’s already called - Yaba, until a name evolves of its own accord (if ever). There’s nothing to be gained by trying to force a name down everyone’s throats and frankly, there are bigger fish to fry.
My 2 cents.
Silicon Valley existed before it became famous as a tech hub, and Hollywood as well.
I don’t get this fixation with trying to twist names to rhyme with “silicon” & attaching “valley” as a suffix to whatever city happens to have some tech activities going on.
If Yaba becomes a successful tech hub, the name Yaba would also be synonymous with tech just like Silicon Valley (who knows, some people might then try to name their tech hubs Yaba).
We should resist the urge to be unoriginal at every opportunity.
It’s contradictory to champion the promotion & usage of local goods/creations & carry on with imitation.
We always seem to come up with ingenious ways to shoot ourselves in the foot.
Well yaba dosent have any billion dollar valued company yet, but I guess people will agree Yaba is already a successful tech hub…
There’s a VERY detailed thread debating the merits of calling that area Yaba Right.
count me out of any “YABACON VALLEY”… as i have said before it shouldn’t even have a Valley in it. i don’t just understand how we came to the point where we have to copy America for anything… even simple name. any other thing will do just fine for me.
Just Yaba!
People don carry the name go far.
YabaTech… Strolls away
Doesn’t seem like there will be a fruitful end to this naming argument. Like @SkweiRd mentioned, best to just leave it as it is i.e. Yaba. A name will naturally evolve. Otherwise if we must in the meantime, it should be along the lines of something like “Yaba Technology Strip”, “Yaba Tech Corridor” etc. like @mark suggested on Twitter. Those names make the most plain sense for now.
Well, this topic has been discussed in the past. Really don’t see a need to do this again but let’s recap. Like @Chisomy_SOG said; naming our tech space yabacon valley lacks originality. As a matter of fact, naming it anything lacks originality. It’s safe to say big things evolve naturally. Let everyone keep up on their shit and let our tech space name itself. Trying to come up with a name isn’t really a go-to for now. What matters is letting the world see what can come out of it. I don’t think some people had a round-table meeting to decide on the name “Silicon valley”, it just grew into the monster tech space it is today.
lol… That’s right
Yaba Space sounds cooler and more convenient.
“Yabaconvalley” is unoriginal, unimaginative and frankly speaking as far as I know, does not exist as an ideal.
Yaba right is even worse.
I do not get this incessant need to give Yaba a forced ‘techie’ appellation and even this desire is unoriginal.
I believe if such a time arises, and if absolutely necessary, a name will come about naturally.
Yaba is fine abeg… must we look for a name for everything?
There’s nothing forced about YabaTech, bat perhaps someone in the corridor thought that wasn’t hip enough, or ironically, wasn’t original.
You could even say it shares the same happenstance like SV in the predication of her naming.
The name will come naturally. No need to force it, even a wikipedia entry won’t stop the natural forming name from taking hold.
My people will never rest this matter.
