As noted on this forum before, one of the problems confronting game developers is the issue of visibility and it’s one issue that has bedeviled the industry for a while.
That would soon be a thing of the past as we have taken upon ourselves the initiative to publish a Top 10 List of the BEST Performing mobile games in Nigeria, with a special category for Nigerian publishers.
This Chart will be published every month, and it will enable enthusiast and local developers discover the games that are trending.
Below is the Charts for the Month of May.
Top 10 Most Played Games in Nigeria (May Edition)
@lanreode,
Unfortunately that DOESN’T help the visibility problem, It only shows who is currently spending the most cash on marketing. Aside from that, will the methodology of HOW the charts are even put together be published openly ? Probably not.
Currently the chart (at least locally for Nigeria) pulls data and analytics from Etisalat’s app store; sadly that is not representative of the whole Nigeria. And I could argue activities in Lagos influence alot of it as well.
Moreso, even if you eventually get data from MTN and GLO app store’s, that’s merely just analytics from those stores and whoever happens to be publishing on them.
I predict that eventually someone is going to create a Game Analytics focused company in Nigeria, (but that might be later on, who knows it might be sooner - there are more than enough niches to be filled in the games space than there currently is enough fuel to cater to all Nigerians ), that really invests in doing the proper research to determine what are truly the most played Games in Nigeria.
And another thing, as is common to the Games industry, “most played Game” does not in any way indicate best games (though in certain cases it is suggestive). Mind you, at least last I checked, and correct me if I’m wrong but, Kuluya isn’t operating anymore (maybe they are doing so underground, who knows - I’m hopeful that some of their staff spin up new game studios soon (after their non-compete clause durations end ) ), and so - do you really want to put the games of a defunct company on the charts ?

I wonder what the actual revenue/download numbers are like
Both points are valid. Would love to know at least the amount of downloads and a singular data comprised of all other telco data. Although, i’m not sure about the marketing spending power. Searched for the top publisher and couldn’t find a single link anywhere.
