Living up to its Luxurious status
Ok, we are figuring out what’s important and what isn’t. Will curiosity lead me into the shop (view all products) to find out the prices? or will the prices (if shown), make me bounce right away.
All feedback is taken into consideration, thanks.
@Tonianni On image size, great images are important for your kind of business, you can have your images compressed using -----> https://tinypng.com/developers and still keep the great visual quality. Have your developers implement the API.
Thanks, it’s been used, didn’t do much with a lot of images which were better off being compressed before uploading to the site. Currently using JPEGmini
@Tonianni For WP, custom image sizes are super helpful. I always added mine.
A couple of tools I’ve used in the past:
If you don’t want to code/rely on WP to crop for you. I liked this sometimes because you don’t always want to crop top/bottom.
I don’t know how effective the first one can be with super huge pics tho.
Thanks, we’ll try the second plugin. Yeah, the ewww optimizer doesn’t do much for huge pics >10mb . So compressing into KBs before uploading helps.
I think this is great, but how are you going to compete with the market for high end replicas?
Thanks. It’s not really a competition, the product/service is different though similar. In any case, we are testing our assumptions, and will see if this works for the Nigerian market.
Yoohoo! So BuyMyLux went ‘offline’, which we are finding is a must-do in this Nigerian market. Almost everything was sold at the event but what did BuyMyLux learn?
- Nigerians don’t want to buy online except via Direct Bank Transfer
- People like preowned stuff better than new ones
- Offline, Offline, Offline.
Cheers.
Reminds me of the interesting post that @ogunlanaolumide wrote ages ago on TechCabal.
Founder of BuyMyLux featured in the Guardian Life Magazine!
No replicas but Originals huh?
Plus are they certified pre-owned? Finally do you verify true ownership?
21 questions shey?
Hello Adequnle,
We have 3rd party companies in the US and in Italy that help authenticate the pre-owned and new items to be sold on BuyMyLux are original, we have a zero tolerance policy for replicas/fakes/counterfeits/knock-offs (which ever term you prefer!). As for ownership we couldn’t verify ownership of all items on buymylux (except we were the FBI!) but you do affirm by accepting the T&C that you have the right to sell the item, and should we find out otherwise you will be disallowed from using the site and we can take on the matter to law enforcement.
we advice you send as much proof of authenticity and ownership you have, but in many (most actually) cases that is not available. Few people keep receipts and invoices of purchases when it comes to fashion items.
I think it’s all in the name “Lux”
I find www.tinypng.com to be very effective with high compression ratio while retaining picture quality (it’s almost lossless). You should try it if you still need it. They also have a free-tier API if you want to hook up your server and compress images on the fly. Best regards.
EDIT: someone already suggested that; my bad.
That was fixed months ago. Many thanks for your suggestions.
Thanks for the response, I referred your site to a couple of Ladies (designer bags freaks) and they were pretty much excited about it and gave good reviews (save for your picture quality which has been pointed out to you already).
Their concerns were along the same lines as the questions asked above and your response dealt with them quite okay.
Wish you all the best.
Hello Adequnle,
Many thanks for your help, we really appreciate it!
Good job.
Thanks a lot!
