people will pay to get betting tips, phone numbers of pretty babes, and information they can make money from…
The summary of this conversation is that most of the people on this thread (and most likely, Radar) would not pay N500/month for what you described. That being said, there’s no guarantee that other people wouldn’t do it - especially if you give them the info/content they’re looking for. Try it, what’s the worst that can happen?
@alpontif nailed it but let me just add that even the phone numbers of the pretty Babes must include “well photoshoped” pictures of the Babes.
But there is another thing. It seems a lot of people make posts about business ideas here and seem to believe the community’s response is useful.
The people on this blog are mostly aspiring entrepreneurs.
Apart from the part that you only have very few people in this community, aspiring entrepreneurs in software/technology services do not reflect the mindset of the average person.
In this same country people paid for services like frenzo.
And in this same country, people voted for the current President.
So every business idea can work regardless of the sentiments of these over-aware entrepreneurs.

The attacking qualities of our strikers will nullify the defensive qualities of our defenders.
Wasn’t even sure what the gaffer was doing. 4-4-2, 4-1-2-3, diamond? Sigh. I dey laugh o
Sorry wrong thread
You are right as loads of my Goons belong to paid Whatapp groups that either announces the availability and prices of Oyinbo Air Hostesses that play ball or opportunities to invest in certain types of containers that are about to be cleared.
The most important bit is always the credibility of the Group Admin and these groups have strict rules of engagement that all members religiously adhere to.
Yes, but definitely not for the services you mentioned above.
Few reasons why you might consider joining a WhatsApp group at a small fee / month.
- Valuable Information
- RealTime Information (stock market alerts, business news alerts, binary alerts, exchange rates etc.)
- Quick Assistance (Yes, you can create a group for professional takes on people’s problems etc)
And also, most entrepreneurs are not Tech Savvy but have quality information or services to render.
I think most people just shy away from the amount of nuisance behind those notifications but then again, this can be curtailed by implementing rules. Eg. A group moderator could purge a user for few days for ‘talking too much’ etc.
Thanks to everyone that responded. What this thread has done for me is to remind me that, there’s always a market willing to buy what you have regardless of how “crude” the product seemingly looks as long as there’s value and gets the job done (although whether the market is big enough is another question).
It also reminded me to be less stereotyped as I can’t always be the target market. There are quite a lot of people who have different realities, standards, beliefs, exposure and orientation different from mine and they represent a viable business opportunity.
I pay the equivalent of $3 per year to be on a Facebook group so this is isn’t a far fetched idea. I’ve done this for 3 years now. It’s a group of only mums and we’re currently 1000. There are a couple of other groups for all sorts of things that people pay to be in. For example, there’s a WhatsApp group where night time police traffic stops are shared. It’s either pay a small subscription per month (for regular party goers) or a hefty bribe when you’re picked up for driving under the influence. Information is indeed highly valuable.
If OP’s question really is “Would you pay N500 to join a whatsapp group?” like he claims, then going by just basic statistics, I can say with a high accuracy that he has gotten his answer and should look to elsewhere for more data (maybe Nairaland?) or base on what was gathered here.
THE END
But wait…What if this idea smokes SK a little…
and becomes something akin to the I am rich app
I am Rich Whatsapp group - Join and chat with money sprayers like yourself
I am Rich Telegram Bot - send you mesasges every morning “You are rich” “You deserve it” “You are good, healthy and successful”
I am rich Slack integration - Tells your team how rich they (or the company?) are…until (LOL)…they are not
Any takers? No? Crap!
Nigerians don’t like subscription service. In fact recurring payment will be a problem.
Some rich guys might garbage in the N500 for the first month but what happens to the second month?
Yes. If Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga and their peers are in the group, why not more?
Information is key in this Era we are, yes i will pay just that the info must be of Use to me
in Kenya people are paying for Whatsapp groups that advertise underground vices. Some pay for betting tips, others pay Whatsapp pimping and others pay for alerts on breathalyzer stops
Hmmm interesting… @ night time police traffic stops.
Buddy, Nigerian Police only set up Road blocks not to suprise criminals but to collect OTC levies, and weekend offerings.
I can tell with little margin of error where they post up at night, every night on all major axis.
The guys that still spring suprises na VIO. If there’s a WA group for that one, let me know if I can get a free trial. Cheers!
FRSC too :).
Anyway the Answer is divided.
-
Some here will NEVER pay to join a group whether wit useful info or not
-
Some here will consider it if it has the value they need, where value is x( value can be ANYTHING to ANYONE)
-
Some will pay because they like being in groups.
The End, now lets move on.
FRSC na my people. VIO? Real tools.
On the contrary, I think everyone here will pay for one kind of WA group or the other. Whatsapp is just the medium, it’s the value of proposition sold that matters.
It’s fair to assume that everyone has one information or the other they are willing to pay for; WA is as good a medium as any.
Abeg link me o, hepp.
