Why the Govt needs tech

A while back, I wrote a post here about why I feel the Govt should “invest” heavily in tech, and peeps here were not really getting the point. http://radar.techcabal.com/t/tech-revolution-in-nigeria/

I forgot to mention that what really inspired that post was an incident that occurred at my workplace where we used our CCTVs to catch a phone thief. (That incidence was like a movie to me).

Imagine if we had functioning CCTVs in all nooks and corners of our roads whether there would still be theft or rough driving or crossing the express when there’s a bridge near u, and and and

OK, before I continue, pls read this article from techcrunch:

I personally feel that the Govt is the no 1 needer of tech, even more than the banks, hospitals, schools, etc. and hence should do anything to maximise n harness the opportunities tech presents to it.

What this also means is that govt. are supposed to be sourcing for the best talents in tech (and of course other fields) to come and work in Govt. institutions so as to help them solve their problems. So for instance the Nigerian army/Defenfence Institutions should have the best programmers, security engineers, robotics engineers, mech engineers etc.

I’m sure we’re all aware that alot of facilities we enjoy today such as the Internet, NASA, drones etc started out as a govt. research, and that the American govt. has a CTO! This explains us how they reason and and would go to any length to solve their problems.

Good post,

There’s a laundry list of things that needs to work before we even talk of technology. Imagine the cameras in the “nooks and crannies” and there’s no power…They’ll be filming spider documentaries after a while.

Good and proper Education, infrastructural rehabilitation etc for a start.

As for crazy driving, this may work

Happy Sunday

Well, I slightly disagree with this view that “this must be perfect b4 that can work”, this is just like d argument that services like uber can’t work in Nigeria unless we have good roads, street lights etc

As for d issue of power, there are different ways machines can be powered: gen, solar, batteries etc.

So 4 instance just like my workplace example I gave above wrt CCTV & theft(our building is actually in Lagos with d same no 24hrs light, no this no that isues), excuses such as no power n co should not impede us in harnessing d potentials tech pose to us n solving our daily problem.
Of course having these infrastructures in place makes things easier.
