What's up with Techcabal?

Of recent, I hardly visit Techcabal.com. This is because, whenever I go there, I just see headlines in this format:

Top African Technology News For January 19, 2017

I mean, I don’t know why, but it bores me dry. I think I get the subconscious impression that

there’s nothing happening in the Nigerian tech scene newsworthy enough to merit a headline of its own

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. But that’s how I feel, and I don’t read TC anyone because of that. Thoughts, anyone? Or is it just me?

I still read a few… but yes, I agree, I am a little less inclined to click them as opposed to a single high impact headline

You not alone my brother. I recently tweeted that it seems they’ve been on leave since the holidays.

On twitter someone conducted a poll recently on the best tech blog in Nigeria. Most people clicked on Tech Cabal. I was like seriously? Content recently has been pretty much the same if not even less than others listed on the poll. Boring.

Are you just noticing?

TC has been on the decline for months now and i think it all began when Gbenga Onalaja left. But still , Bankole and Osarumwen are more than able to keep the fire burning. I guess they got distracted.

I think they are channelling more energy to the daily newsletter…

Yes, the newsletter is loads more interesting than the site itself. Kinda pointed, though, that none of the links on today’s newsletter is to techcabal.com. Almost as though they’re saying, “Sorry, we haven’t got anything of our own.”

Personally, I prefer seeing high-impact, localised headlines, telling me about what’s going on in Nigeria, Kenya etc, rather than lumping everything together. The “African” label just doesn’t cut it for me. I like knowing from the outset that, okay, this is what is happening in Nigeria, and this is in Kenya, okay.

Y’all don’t understand the dyamics of online publishing, but that’s Okay. As users, the schematics are oblivious to us, we just want what meets our needs which ever and however way it happens. Otherwise having a background in digital publishing specifically Tech reporting, Techcabal is doing a super amazing job in Africa.

While I understand the need for SEO, you should give the people what they want. I would take this seriously if I were Tech Cabal.

I know this is cliche, but linda did not give two rats hairs about SEO. She gave the great unwashed horde what they wanted.

Lol. You and your Linda analogies. True though.

Totally forget about dynamics and how it works. This thread about faithful readers and getting content as usual.

I don’t need to be in the game or understand. I’ll just move over to whoever gives me what I want. Good for them if TC has some hidden system that works for them.

I was wondering the same. Maybe it some staff restructuring… I use techpoint for when I want to know whats new and happening?

I’ve had this thought on my mind since they started the Top African tech news thing, I even get more excited visiting Techpoint than Techcabal these days. It would be really nice if the “Ogas at the top” at Techcabal could give us some insight about their new format.

I must confess that I felt the same. I suggest they post Headlines separately instead of having to click through so many embedded headlines.

PS: I think the former format of the newsletter is better than the current.

is anything really happening?

Not my kind of thing, but…
