And by the way, I got to know of printivo from Techcabal, and since then Deola ''their customer care agent" is wow… We have done loads of businesses together… They handle 9jabookings (my startup) printing jobs… They have never failed me… Kudos… My problem is if we all dont get this oppourtunity of being on techcabal, how can we get loyal customers like I am to Printivo.
Was going to respond to this thread, but then realise it’s just best to relax and enjoy the weekend.
To be honest, TC exhibits a lot of favoritism. It might not be intentional, but it’s apparent. I think as a Tech News Media Agency/blog, perspectives/views from editors should be from an unbiased view irrespective of the fact that you have friends in the ecosystem.
I remember sometimes Last year, where Muyiwa prior to Leaving TC wrote a somewhat negative Article about Konga. I never got to reading that article. Why? Bankole already flagged the article 5-10 minutes after publishing, while instantly posting another article informing readers to disregard the article about Konga as published by Muyiwa initially. Muyiwa might have had the wrong information or details, but did we ever get to find out ?
While Traction is important, I like to believe Traction and Press are somewhat intertwined depending on your product and the targeted market. For IrokoTv, while they gained traction early on from their YouTube days, it was Sarah Lacy’s post on Techcrunch that brought in Tiger Global which eventually lead to the Ultimate traction.
Even Jason acknowledges it.

Even you acknowledge they had traction. Which got them press. Which contributed to funding. But traction first.
Anyway, that’s why Radar is here. Post your startup in the products section and let the community see it. And perhaps, funding. You never know who is reading!
TechCrunch has one too.
Bros… I don’t think you should be looking for featured post by force.
It doesn’t help you book more artist in any way at all. Take it from a startup that has gotten lots of foreign and local press ( https://newsoffice.mit.edu/2014/mit-global-startup-labs-invites-back-alum http://www.fastcompany.com/3026686/most-innovative-companies-2014/the-top-10-most-innovative-companies-in-africa) If your business isn’t making money in Nigeria, no one would listen to you immediately. TC doesn’t favor anyone. Too bad if they didn’t respond to you but the truth you are not paying them (if you want press pay lindaikeji 50k or Bella 105k and perhaps people would even book on your platform)
I personally don’t know Seyi on Bankole. I have never physically exchanged more than 500 words from both of them collectively sef. We won battlefield (one of their products) its only natural that they promote the winners of their product now(remember TC is a startup too) Dont you see the way facebook is promoting videos? (Companies/startups promote their products)
I think the bigger problem here is turning tech founders into celebrities (like the media is currently doing) so some of us start this hustle for the wrong reasons
Bros focus on the hustle and forget tech blogs…pour that energy into getting a Nigerian Wedding Feature(http://www.nigerianweddingblog.com/) or a Wedding Digest Feature(weddingdigestnaija.com). I personally think that has more value to you cause they have far more readers that you need.
Btw…except you are generating more $15K per month, with more than 7 man team, 10k artist signed up with more than 100 ongoing relationships per month, you cant be certain if we are better or not(i sharply pitch )
- Let me correct your opinion, that I am looking for a post by force… Thats not correct… I am not… I am just wondering why wouldn’t they??? We have gone to other channels both offline and online even when they did not gave us a shot on their platform.
- I expected nothing less from someone that won TC BF. @ogunlanaolumide
@BalogunDanjuma @OlaitanMayowa Our start-up CBT-Game platform was featured on Tech Cabal http://techcabal.com/2015/05/07/magbodo-is-putting-a-kinder-face-on-computer-based-tests/. We didn’t pay any cash neither did we know anyone from techcabal and within three weeks of pitching, we were featured.
Hey! work on your stuff, make it great and if Techcabal can’t see value in it others may. I agree with @seyitaylor i will pick traction over publicity because press does not guarantee traction or success.
Traction is King; Press is Queen.
@seunope @ogunlanaolumide bro no one need press by force, If I need one I know where to go.

@BalogunDanjuma Thank you so much for using Printivo. Interesting thread here:)
I guess u were just lucky or your pitch fell into the right hands…
Can I bring up a chess analogy?
17 hours and counting, still waiting for analogy.
I lost my thoughts right after that, care to help me out?
I think what @BalogunDanjuma is getting at is that getting featured on TechCabal, Nigeria’s No 1 Tech Blog, and a darling of techies is Validation.
Its what fellow techies read, and gives a sense of accomplishment amongst peers.
That said, I think your communication strategy wasn’t good enough. Bankole and Seyi are on twitter.
How about getting artistes you have booked to tweet about your service?
RT and tag Bankole or Seyi.
Then TC could write a story from a fresh angle like "Want to Book Ice Prince for your daughter’s next birthday? Takes a minute on 9jabookings "
Regards
- We have gotten posts and retweets from celebrities… But tagging bankole or seyi, mbaaaa…
- I felt the pitch your startup is more official than begging on twitter… (my viewpoint anyways)
@BalogunDanjuma you’ve done quite a lot on your own since you started chasing down a mention by TC without success.
From what I read, I doubt you still need it. Just keep doing whatever you’re doing, buddy!
Trading your traction tickets to get media mentions may only do so much good!
As long as am getting my paper and business right, who gives a hoot about media mentions, it comes courting with time.
I wish you good luck as you entirely missed my point
Before this thread closes. Can you give an insight as to what happened between Bankole and Muyiwa with the Konga article.?
I noticed you dodged this part in your response
