The US is a far easier place to “make it” than Nigeria and you don’t need to be in IT. I have a friend who is a truck driver (he has an MBA) and he makes over $100K a year. Heck if you dont even have a college degree you will live a very comfortable life unless you are one lazy mf.
Nigeria on the other hand the economic opportunities are extremely limited. Then add the horrendous infrastructure. Add in the rubbish government that has no plans to change anything now or in the forseeable future. The Americans are thinking driverless cars. Nigeria can’t even fix roads. Enjoy your youth in America.
Am not sure where you missed it in my message , because if you know about the laws that govern an international student(F1 Student/visa…pls google it) limiting them from so many things you wouldn’t use words like “lazy mf”. You basically CANNOT legally do anything if you leave school without completing your Bsc except you get married and sucessfully get your green card which is not guaranteed. Truth be told, After my experience in the states, I have come to value my motherland Nigeria, call it what you want but until you leave and face the other side you will continue to despise her. That being said, you will enjoy America once you have all your documents with the right support system to help you get it.
@fran Thank you for the advise, the only reason I posted this here was because of the matured minds I see on Radar, thanks for the opportunity once again, will definitely reachout to you
Perhaps you should look for a life partner. Get married for real or get proprtly educated and get a job. America has lots of opportunities more than most places. I have no regrets I spent my youth there. Nigeria wastes its youths. People in Nigeria looking for their first job at the age of 29. Asemota wrote an article about how we like to waste time in Nigeria. He was dead right. Doing business in Nigeria is like ultimate survivor. You are not even sure of tommorow. Stay in America till your 40s or 50s.
I am sorry you have to go through this. You are doing great to have picked up yourself.
Can you transfer your college credit to a community college, so that you can work towards an associate degree?
Being in school helps you to get co-op position while in junior year.
I totally understand the restrictions as I am an F1 student myself . A couple of friends drive Uber using friend’s credentials for sustenance and Amazon Flex to pick few hours.
To get a job in Nigeria would involve having a portfolio . Most people would like to see your portfolio before giving an offer. So you can spend weekends working on products and building small scale products / web jobs for friends etc.
While your F1 is still valid, you can also consider the MAVNI program. Valid F1 is necessary and you get your tuition paid for you
I really empathise with you and wish you all the best.
P.S
If you have a home church, you can discuss it with an elder over there. I have a friend here. She currently works at a hospice owned by one of the church members so she is tax free on pay because no cheques. Nigerian owned business could use extra hands .Cheers
@LIFE. Take a screen shot of @Umi’s advice here. Laminate it. Put it somewhere close to your bible so that you can read it to yourself everyday till you have achieved it.
You can fast track your Nano degree program by finishing ahead of schedule to quality for a 50% refund.
