Should I leave Ghana and come and work in Nigeria?

Hello everyone,
I have a problem and would love to hear your opinions.

So I just graduated from a tertiary institution here in Ghana and thinking of coming to work back home.
I have worked with 3 different companies, got my first job while in my second year of school.
I want to know what the tech ecosystem is like especially for software devs, average renumerations etc.

I need a place that will help me grow as a developer, the second company I worked for over here were all about hype. I wasn’t benefiting as a dev. The other one, there was no senior dev,so I was practically one my own.

Will this my stack be able to get me a job in any of the most challenging startups(please if you can list some, I will be greatful)?

Backend
Python/Django
Nodejs(though I’d prefer to focus more on django)
Postgres
MySql
Nginx

Frontend
Angularjs
Vanilla js
Jquery
Bootstrap
Material Design (Materializecss, MDL, Angular material)
Some Sass

Mobile
Ionic Framework

Devops
Vagrant
Docker
AWS(EC2)…I am no expert

Others
GIT(have used github,gitlab and bitbucket)
Linux
Heroku
I know a thing or two about TDD too :stuck_out_tongue:.

Do you think I will be fine coming back home to work?
Honestly, I just want to get better at this thing because that is the only thing I love doing.

Disclaimer: I do not claim to be an expert or kickass in any of these techs, what I have done right from school was put myself in a position where catching up with anything new wouldn’t be a problem.
I left my other jobs not because the pay wasn’t good, but because I wasn’t growing, no challenge.
I don’t want to be doing wordpress work.

PS: A client I once did a freelance job for in the US also recommended I sign up for Andela, What do you think about them?

Hi @pyc0d333,

What have you done with those skills? Any portfolio?

It isn’t like you will be coming from India or States where tech eco-system appears to be advanced. Admittedly, Nigeria is a tough place but I wouldn’t advice you to stay in Ghana either.

Relatively, I think you will be better off in Nigeria if you want to develop your tech skills.

All the best!
