Shopify or StoreMantis

Hello everyone,

I want to start an ecommerce website and i was wondering if i should use shopify or storemantis. I played with both websites but i am still wondering which to go with.

I need suggestions from anyone who has an experience with any please. Thank you

Hi, It depends on your needs, but have you played with frontdesk.ng yet?

If you want something powerful and still simple, then try https://www.frontdesk.ng/storebuilder. I’ll like to know what you think.

Hello sir, thanks for your reply. I will check that right away. thanks once again.

Why shopify from Nigeria?
Shopify has a monthly subscribtion plan…are you ready for it?

I’d suggest you use woocommerce to give your business the first shot. WordPress is a great tool for building ecommerce website. And if you dont want to get your hands on any single line of code, buy a premium theme and remember to use the documentations of the theme to get the actual result of what your ideal platform should look like. (If you’re a newbie)

While you Focus on growing your business, plan ahead for hiring developers & designers to add a professional taste to it.

Done is better than perfect. The technology behind an ecommerce business does not matter, what you offer to your customers is what matters. Just start.

Hey @muadeen

I don’t know the scope of your project, i have weaned a client off shopify before , i guess it’s worth giving a thought if you choose that platform else…check me out… custom made designs for your niche

@muadeen you should be aware going with SaaS means you have no control over the code base and if you need features they do not have, you will have to consider what APIs they have and how well you can integrate with them if you build a 3rd party application.

Your question does not provide details of what exactly you’re building but some things i would consider are:

  • what features are provided in the Admin section.
  • how clean / well structured or designed the Admin is (usefulness / user experience)
  • am i satisfied with basic order, product and content management or i need more advanced reporting / insights
  • do i need to be able to sell my products on other channels / marketplaces or embed my products on other websites.
  • depending on how big i envisage my site getting, i would consider resiliency and security too.
  • look for success stories or people that have used either platforms

Generally, I would pick Shopify.

By the way, I work at Shopify as an Engineer but everything I said is my opinion

@bedy, there’s an upfront cost when you build stuff yourself or go with an open source option. Especially if you do not have the requisite skill set and can not afford someone building it for you. If you really want to bootstrap and test your idea, you should consider an existing service.

Also, technology really starts to matter when you scaling needs arises.
