Just one more thing. How about the young dev that’s been lurking outside (reading threads etc), however didn’t have the courage/reason to register an account, till now? But yet felt a part of Radar family, albeit from the outside.

And now that you’ve set the rules of the completion, she says here’s my app, you turn around and ban them?

Technically, they weren’t a part of the community… but they want to profit from it. Could have as well made it a Twitter contest then.

:joy::joy::joy: @wkyo and his gifs tho.

Technically nothing in the guidelines for the competition, disqualifies them.

Mind you I’m not excusing anyone who’s creating dodgy profiles to inflate their entry. I just strongly feel that if the guidelines didn’t disqualify initially, why should they be retrospectively disqualified?

Obviously this meta thread wouldn’t exist if the guidelines had something preventing the dodgy behaviour. It’s an expression of surprise, etc. Of course we have agreed nothing can be done (see @seyitaylor’s post) about the one in progress, but we can discuss and set the stage for future “competitions”.

I’m not condoning dodgy behaviour. Like any competition, some folks will seek to bend/stretch the rules. And also not taking anything away from what Seyi said earlier (which I read). At the end of the day, one will always take new knowledge on board, which I guess is the plan for future.

But where’s the line of consistency when someone joins Radar and immediately submits a product for review, without any sort of participation? Then perhaps it makes sense for people to join with the sole intention of participating in a completion. Do you see any difference? Because I don’t.

Good point @xolubi

No idea what happened to my response via email.

My position is this. $500 is a token that can buy maybe an average laptop. My main reason for this is to get an index of things out there. hopefully, asides Hiro, other investors will reach out to the startups that interest them. Besides, only one person can get it.

Lurkers are part of a community. I think they should pitch.

As for the voting, if there is a way to count only the votes of existing members pre competition, I will be ok with it.

On this, I will defer to @seyitaylor and @bankole.

Really? People would do this for $500 and $2500? Hahaha, and still be hoping for God to pick up the call and send The Mark Zuckerberg their way. Lol!

I want to believe the free publicity is the core attraction, reason why people are submitting their startUps and not really the said $500

Free publicity is good, but for me, $500 is lots of propellers, a few electric motor and some boards so… Yeah

I don’t think we should disqualify new entries who pitched. They just might have not seen a reason to sign up until now. What brought me to radar was a post on drones and since then I’ve been hooked. Maybe this is their own reason too and hence the community grows…

We should watch out for dodgy new sign up who are liking posts though, I think admin could handle that… :smirk: :sunglasses:
