NIIT Vs New Horizon - Which of them offers the best on Java

Finally, I am opting for a course on Java.

Here is what the counsellors at New Horizon said:

  • Only Saturdays (1-3pm)

  • Duration (6 Months)

  • Fee (120K)

A Similar search on NIIT Java class took me to OgbongeBlog and here are his review:

  • Saturday and Sunday

Duration (6Months)

But Don’t know what the fee is like right now. but he said it was worthwhile as he was exposed to IT world.

Please I need an unbias advice on which of these school offers the best in class traning.

I’m going to be biased and say you’d be better off reading a book. I may be self-projecting but I don’t think these schools have produced any real developer who didn’t also invest heavily in self-development.

I agree with @xolubi but I guess it also depends on how you learn. I know couple of friends who learn better one on one … Perhaps you should experiment with online courses and books for a month and see how that goes.

If I can combine @xolubi and @Shinamee approach.

  1. Get a book
  2. Talk to some one who knows java and ask them questions about what you read in the books

PS

Youtube and Coursera are also a very good resources. I were you I’ll spend the 120K on internet to power your learning.

Goodluck

They might be right. I must confess that the BEST programmers i have worked with were SELF-TAUGHT!

Yea, I agree too - Best programmers are self-taught. Can someone refer me to a good Java programmer on this forum?

I agree with xolubi. I attended NIIT and I must say that I learnt so many things regarding IT but coding. When it comes to writing the code I had to invest a lot of personal time.

Your best bet is to watch a video tutorial introducing you to Java: https://www.lynda.com/Java-tutorials/Java-Essential-Training/377484-2.html
Then get the book: How to program in Java - Deitel Deitel. http://www.deitel.com/Books/Java/JavaHowtoProgram10eEarlyObjects/tabid/3656/Default.aspx

i don’t think any school has produced such, with the person in question investing in their personal development

You are supa dupa right!

IMO either of them will teach core language constructs and concepts, neither will teach you how to code.
