New E-commerce Platform

I bet you put in hours for your work too - can’t wait to see your ‘rubbish’

Think you came to the wrong place for advice. The guys here love UI and UX but have little to no experience running an ecommerce site. The design doesn’t really matter because most of your buyers won’t buy from you because of the design. There are tons of websites selling daily that looks worse off.

http://deeski.com/ started with a very poor website. I remember finding it hard to purchase on their site but today its better than it was then plus they had a feature where you could send an SMS or call in to buy.

Please note: Design won’t affect if users would purchase on your site. Forget what they said here.
Work on your marketing channels and reach out to your market. Start small and monitor your numbers.

Yeah @ofemi take off the payment gateway ASAP (like now, if you can) and leave it as POD.
Also, make it easy to checkout - nothing fancy here =)

The comments are terrible

Those who are in the ecommerce business would strongly agree with you. Nigerians love to buy things while Jumia and Konga are the obvious choices, this doesn’t stop them from shopping with smaller brands. I mean, people order for items they saw on Facebook pages, so why won’t they buy on a store with a bad design? Are they buying the design? LOL

Nice comment but design is not how it looks it how it works! Why do people buy iPhones or MacBooks? Why is apple the most valuable coy in the world? DESIGN!!! This is a very good place for ideas. I fool around a lot here but you sure can pick one or two things from my negativity

would you walk into an ugly store with poor windows or no mosquito nets and all the basics?

I’m glad we both agree on two things - your negativity and APPLE.

Correct, people buy Apple for its design but what about the ugly Dell or the ever reliant Hp? What of the litle Nokia phone or the ‘protein-deficient’ gala as against the more expensive and well prepared Johnny Rocket burgers? Why do people buy them?

My point is simple - if you take care of the main priority as an online store you would achieve the main goal - sales. Not UX awards or “We love your design” post cards from Radar users who are obsessed with design. He wants to sell online- not look pretty.

None of you guys gave any comment about marketing or deliveries or the checkout process because what is important to you is design. Design is good but Jumia and Konga are not the top dogs because of it.

The local mallam in your area is right beside the gutter - don’t you patronize him? Have you ever wondered why you do?
Simple - he gets the job done.
This is not to excuse the look and feel of his tiny shop(referring to the mallam here) but you would be crazy to expect him to give you the same ambiance as Shoprite, won’t you?

None of you guys? None? Really? LOL

People buy those things because thats what they can afford bro. So this guy has to make his prices come down.

Nope because I don’t want to go far. Which goes back to this guy considering same day delivery cos I don’t want to have to wait  I’m killing it here bro

Actually, this is my “rubbish” - Sugabelly Phone Cases

And it’s amazing.

Want to know why? Because I criticize my own work even more harshly than I criticize other people’s work. I hold my own work to the absolutely highest standards possible. Nine times out of ten, I am reluctant to release a product because I think it is shit.

It’s other people who usually say “No Sugabelly, this is good, this is great! This is awesome”
But in my own eyes, I can see the flaws that those people are not seeing, and I’m berating myself inside to do better next time.

Each of those cases took about 50 hours to draw and paint. That’s 50 hours of pure drawing and painting, not 50 hours of some drawing, gisting, going to read a magazine, etc.

I’m fucking amazing at what I do and it’s because I strive for perfection.

Now this website doesn’t have to be perfect, but instead of listening to the wisdom in what I said, you and others here spent your energy whining because I called his website ugly (which is still true).

I did give him constructive criticism, I told him to establish a niche and dominate it. You didn’t see that one.

It’s not my website, so what is my own?

I did give him straight to the point advice.

But you seem to have skipped over the part where I told him to delineate his competitive advantage by establishing and dominating a niche in your hurry to rent your garments over me saying his website is ugly.

enjoying this thread, (first comment yay!)

Lmao. hahaha. I’ve been saying this since forever.

@lordbanks I believe what @micky has done up here is doxxing and isn’t tolerated on most public forums. FYI.

Damn! The anger in this thread. @sugabelly you dey try o!

Yup, I agree with @xolubi about the doxing thing. Threads should be moderated closely.

@xolubi I believe we have the power to moderate, we can flag the comment.
