Microsoft provided an update on Office 2019 yesterday, revealing that the applications will run only on Windows 10. In an article supporting the service and support of Windows and Office, Microsoft revealed you will need to upgrade to Windows 10 if you want the latest version of Office without subscribing to the Office 365 service Of the company.
It’s a clearly designed to drive businesses that are not yet on Office 365’s subscriptions since the stand-alone Office software will be supported only on Windows 10 and not Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 OS. This will not affect Office for Mac, a separate product with a different version table. Microsoft is also changing the support lifecycle for Office 2019, so you will receive 5 years of mainstream support and then “nearly 2 years of extended support.”
Office 2019 (which will arrive in the second half of 2018) will include the usual applications of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, as well as the Exchange, Sharepoint, and Skype for Busines versions. Microsoft plans to launch Office 2019 preview copies in mid-2018, the program is designed primarily for organizations that do not use Office 365 cloud versions.
Microsoft is also expanding Windows 10 support for enterprise and education customers who run certain versions of the operating system. Windows 10 version 1511, 1607, 1703 and 1709 will be supported for another six months to help enterprise users and educators move on to the latest versions supported by Windows 10.
