Lookin4.ng: eBay+Craiglist for Nigeria?

Hi everyone,

I will like to present Lookin4.ng. Available on Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ionicframework.lookin4ng

Lookin4.ng is a mobile app available on Google Play Store with plans to roll out the iOS version very soon. As students, we face several issues while buying, selling, or providing services on campus. The app tries to address many of these problems. Some students typically use craigslist, the website is extremely unsafe. As people are almost anonymous while they post a items/services on the website. We mitigate such problem by allowing students login with their facebook account and update information such as their major, interests, etc. We verify the facebook account, making sure it isn’t a fake account. On campus we used notes of our dorm boards to advertise products or services for sale, but this process is very inefficient because most students may not see it, or some may forget to contact the provider. We address this problem by sending app notifications to the provider of any product/services, and provide messaging communication so sellers and buyers can communicate efficiently.

Our goal is to elevate Lookin4 to be the most efficient way to easily find and buy items (or services) in a community. The app comes integrated with geo-location features and a very simple user interface. The app is ready to scale. We have developed Lookin4.ng with plans to handle new users and accommodate growth in terms of both geo-location and data storage design. Lookin4.ng integrates a geo-location feature and allows users find items (or services) closes to them. In addition, jiji.ng and similar websites primarily provide the ability to buy/sell products, and neglect many social benefits we can accommodate as a community. Such as, a user looking for a football team to practice with for a particular day and time or a student who will like the services of a tutor on campus. Our app functions as a one stop for all what users seek in their community. We provide them with the ability to sort or filter posts based on location, rate, poster, date, and so on, in our app.

I will like some feedback on features that may be needed or any references to who a reasonable competitor is, although I am aware our product may be somewhat similar to jiji.ng. Also please let me know if you need any additional information.

What plans do you have to attract students to use your app as opposed to Jiji?

Hi @binjoadeniran
Lookin4.ng is from the perspective of the buyer. So if you’re looking to buy something you post it. Jiji.ng is of the seller, if you are selling something you post it.
However, I still have some reasons out of many to use Lookin4.ng.
No Ads, Much better mobile UI, jiji.ng mobile app is very slow.
We plan to add a map view to our app, so you can easily search based on location.
Ours is more personalized letting you directly message the seller at anytime. We encourage the social and safety aspect of our platform, so our app is more interactive showing user’s profile “captions”, “favorites” etc.
We personalize the experience for buyers by allowing them click “Delete” to remove the old postings, instead of simply showing everything and having them scroll through each time.
Once again no Ads :slightly_smiling:

Bruv, your site isn’t coming up!

Hi @87_chuks Lookin4.ng is the name of the app, its not a website yet…The app is available in both iOS App Store and Android play store. Future work might be publishing a website for the app :slightly_smiling:

WT… :open_mouth:

Well, this is new. Foo.bar isnt a website!!!

The only plan they need is to advertise massively.

Once they get a large amount of users like Jiji, they can start offering those ads he hates seeing on Jiji
