I can summarize what Justfrom5k.com is with two questions and a statement…
What Service Do you Need ?
What Services Can you Offer ?
We Connect People to People…
I launched Justfrom5k.com as a very raw product in May this year…and after several iterations and feedback from people, its getting better everyday and above all, its gaining traction…and yes, its still “work in progress”.
Today, I am bringing Justfrom5k.com to radar because I feel its time to get a different kind of feedback…feedback from people in the tech startup space.
Till date, I have focused mainly on organic growth with sporadic adverts from time to time especially when I am testing functionality. However, I am planning to step up the adverts a bit.
Concerning traction, I know I am getting it because I have seen a marked increase in the rate at which new tasks or projects are posted, the speed at which bids are submitted, the number of bids submitted per task and also on the volume of user verification we do per day. There have been cases where we go upwards of 35 bids on a single post.
So what do I need from radar? The answer is simple… Feedback and Ideas to increase the pace of growth…
Looking forward to hearing from the great minds here.
Dude. Keep up the good work. I remember when you did a campaign on Nl. By the way, was that campaign successful or just there?(really interested in knowing). Also, I just noticed ur press coverages. Good work there bro. A pity TC only meticulously covers Konga, Jumia, Cchub and IROKO exclusively.
Regarding your question, I actually did an experiment to find out which site was effective to advertise on… I tracked the clicks and conversion from each site and then normalized the result to CPC, CPM and result/unit time. I also analysed the result using HotJar.( I recommend this for any startup) The sites are I studied are listed below and I hope to write an article about my result someday.
It was a very expensive exercise but I learnt a lot…
For the study, I used the EXACT artwork and write-up (where possible) and my conclusion is that at least one site on this list is CRAP with regards to advertising. They could not even deliver enough impressions! To avoid being accused of something and bad publicity, I won’t mention names… But I will say the following
Avoid putting you ads on the right hand side of the screen if you can… because in most cases it winds up to the bottom of the screen when viewed on the a smartphone. Less than 30% of the site traffic will scroll down that low and most users use mobile phones.
Linda Ikeji blog post was the most effective…Got a conversion rate of 30% in one day!
Don’t pay any Nigerian that has more than 30,000 followers to tweet for you… Most of the followers are robots or BOUGHT followers from India, china etc and wont bring any value to your site. I have gotten several offers of people offering to sell followers to me for N7 / follower. If you must, tell them (the 30k accont holder) you want to pay for one day only and track the CPC. If it makes sense you may continue. Mine did not!
Also you can use sponsored tweets they get delivered to real people.
BBM Channels are very effective… problem is that the target audience is mostly young people
Facebook and Google Adwords is based on your budget and Keywords…
I hope this helps someone…and don’t forget that irrespective of what you need, there is someone on Justfrom5k.com that can do it for you ;
I’d say you need to start working on an escrow system sooner rather than later. Or some sort of a deposit system. You don’t want a high value job to go sour first before you implement that. Protect the freelancers that are actually doing the work.
This is an update to my earlier post about advetising for Nigerian for startups.
In my earlier post, i had asserted that linda Ikeji is the most efficient plaltform to advertize. Yesterday, I did another test after coughing out a whooping N50,000.
The good news, is that her result is still way better than most other platforms, but the conversion rate was slightly lower than the first time. However, this can be explained by the fact that we had already captured some of her visitors in the earlier posts and from our other advertisement channels…
So good luck… this is just my little way of supporting the Nigerian tech startup space.
