Just barely 20 minute into Jumia Nigeria Biggest Sale of the year; their website went down.
If i were the CEO of this company; i would say that somebody most likely a high profile executive(CTO most likely must be fired).
Reason: This is not the first time it is happening.
I do not think people should just be fired at will like that. In the Tech world such in inevitable. Konga also experienced such in one of the previous Yakata. It is the effect of massive traffic.
The volume of traffic might just be more than they anticipated. Pls cut them some slack. I tried Konga too earlier this morning and it was down as well, but later came back up.
Things like this happen. These companies don’t anticipate the traffic coming in well enough. They can’t use last year’s stats to judge because the number of online shoppers increase on a monthly basis and then there is the problem of increase ads spend during this period to encourage more shoppers.
Cache poisoning is a great deal of a vulnerability when it comes to Domain Name Systems, i am sure their servers can’t just seem to resolve and handle the huge response query (or maybe not so huge response query depending on the database architecture their system was built on) that it’s been logged with per response time. Hence, the reason why their website (or URL) is not able to map to its corresponding IP on time or not at all and believe you me DNSSEC is not really doing much to help matters at the present moment so you really can’t blame this guys when shit happens up there in the root.
But they knew they will get hit by some much traffic, they should have prepared, They know Nigerians like awoof, that was why they created the word In the first place and again we are inquisitive, even if we are not buying we want to look…so they know something like that was going to happen, except the whole blackfriday thing was a scam, I mean what is the point in putting money n effort in what doesn’t exist.
There are things you just can’t help and things that are totally out of your control or domain, want happened on Friday is one of those things period.
@olayiwole Maybe if it was 2009 but in this day and age, that’s not an excuse bro. With autoscaling features waiting to be harnessed on every cloud computing platform (nimble Digital Ocean included), spending money on marketing and neglecting the technology function is just a disappointing mess. Especially when the goal of the money spent is to bring droves to your website on a particular day.
