Is this right from Jumia (China Vendors competing with local Venndors)?

Hello all,

Been an e-commerce vendor for some years now (although I stopped selling on Jumia). Jumia had for sometime now allowed foreign vendors (mostly Chinese) sell on their platform (Jumia Global).

Is their a statutory body that should look into this?

These are my questions:

  1. Most Nigerian vendors import products they sell from China. Is it right to allow ‘foreign market’ compete with local ones (taking note of employment situation in Nigeria). To be sincere I see the prices of these foreign vendors and I wonder how local vendors can compete with them.

  2. Different rules for these ‘Foreign Vendors’:

a. Customers MUST PAY BEFORE DELIVERY for items bought from these foreign vendors. This is not so for local vendors.
b. One major challenge we have as local vendors is the problem of returns. Customers are allowed to return items after 7 days. From experience, they give CUSTOMERS MUCH MORE TIME THAN THIS and FOR VERY FLIMSY REASONS. For ‘the so called Foreign Vendors’ it is virtually impossible to ‘RETURN’ items (although they claim except for damaged items).

These are just a few of my observations (sure there are more). While I know Amazon does something similar (I DON’T THINK FOREIGN VENDORS ARE ‘FAVORED OVER LOCAL ONES’). IS THIS RIGHT???

Though poor from Jumia, more so to put such rules. However, very smart move from them.

At the detriment of local vendors. Think some authorities should be looking into this (AT LEAST SAME STANDARD SHOULD APPLY).
