Good Afromusic, in your inbox

@ADT, I thought the playlist would be a weekly thing ? I can only see monthly playlists on the site.

Hi. Yh something similar to this is in the works. But for now, monthly playlists will have to suffice. Will keep you posted (assuming you have signed up).

@adt fire playlist fam! fire

No lies @ADT this is truly ‘good afromusic in my inbox’! This week’s (especially Tim Lyre’s Marina) was excellent (if I was a teenager, I would say 'it was EVERYTHING!).

In any case, I think you need to devise a way for your subscribers to listen to weekly playlist at once. Instead of current individual selection of the songs, which is clunky and cumbersome. I don’t know if that means you will re-direct to your site (like what you have for monthly playlist) or find a way to do so right in the email.

Haha. Thanks. I’m glad you like the selection.

As for your question about the weekly playlist etc, something similar is in the pipeline (like @lordbanks says or something like that).
I will now speed up this feature since more people are asking about it.

And yup, the ultimate goal will be able to play the song right there in your email. But email functionality has soooo many limitations.
If someone figures out a way to do this, please let me know. I’ve spoken to so many email ‘gurus’ and they say it is not possible.

Thanks for doing this! Hope you can keep it up. Great music with none of the work to find it.

@lordbanks always says ‘it’s on the roadmap’.

But that roadmap has lots of nicknames from people (not me o!) and is now notorious. So probably this is one to not ‘Be like Bankole’.

BTW, Bankole if you were looking for tag line/nickname ideas, here are some; ‘final resting place of feature requests’ or ‘the never-ending story’ or ‘Beware of traffic’. I think my favorite, ‘expect delays’ which means we’re listening to our users, but e fit tey!

Nice selection! I particularly enjoyed the Joy Oladokun feature. She’s soo talented, and yet so unpopular around here.

I think this is the bit that makes me super excited/fascinated about less than 3percent…because ultimately it’s all about selection.

In almost every sphere of our modern life, too much is produced. From products (e.g gadgets), content (e.g. news), experiences (e.g restaurants) etc, there’s just too much noise to know what’s worth your attention or money. So there lies the ultimate value, lists will prove to be way better than search. And there are probably unlimited use cases that this can be shown to be true. Which means as our middle class expands, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more startups playing in this space.

Me too! And definitely never heard of her…which of course is an excellent example of curation.

@ADT Finally signed up for this. Love the June playlist so far. Haven’t been able to finish it yet.

Do you have any plans to create Playlists for Apple Music? Would really love to download your playlists on there.

Sup Yinka, thanks for signing up!

My simplest answer to your question is- It’s on the roadmap.

As you may know, as a product maker yourself, one of the major things in building a product (even something as simple as this) is knowing which features to prioritize first and then working your way through that list.

Side example: One of the features I wanted to add to the emails was ‘notify me when this song is on spotify’ or ‘add to my spotify’ which is a great feature but just too time consuming especially if it’s for a select few.

Most songs don’t get to spotify on time, so it’s hard to produce the same quality monthly. My workaround atm is to do a 6 month playlist for the songs that ARE on spotify then at least I’m sure a decent chunk of good music is in the cycle. Roadmap

Then we will do the same for Apple Music.

I will update you on this.

Hope that helps. Please keep the suggestions coming, the more requests for a feature, the greater the possibility I’ll add it.

Hmmm… This roadmap go need extra lane o.

Maybe I will and attempt to create one myself. If I’m successful, I’ll share it on here for anyone that’s interested.

Keep up the good work.

So @ADT, I managed to find 17 out of the 35 songs on the June Playlist. Those artists need to step-up.

Here’s the link if anyone is interested.

Sup everyone

So due to requests I have now made efforts to make the same playlists for Apple and Spotify too.
Although later than usual (i will try to post at the same time as the initial release), I have found most of the songs for this month on both services.

So here’s the link for July’s Playlist:

Apple (30/39 songs)

Spotify (24/39 songs)

Hope this helps

Will then post it by email from now on. Just wanted to inform you all.

This is a great idea!. I’ve been out of the loop on afrobeat music for a couple of years now. A point made evident to me when I attended a wedding recently and couldn’t recognise most of the songs the DJ was playing. Suffice it to say, I got made fun of to no end by my friends :joy::sweat_smile:
Hoping this will atleast get me to check in once a month on what’s hot in afrobeat. I’ll try to go through the back catalogue as well.
