Do people actually read books online? I most likely would choose reading a paperback textbook or novel over reading one online or on my phone. Although reading an ebook has benefits such as hassle-free context seach, I believe it doesn’t match the comfort you get from reading an actual book, easy on the eyes and all.
But that’s just my preference. How about you?
If you had to order a book online and both versions cost the same price, which would you prefer? Similarly, If you downloaded a four-page manual that contains a few illustrations, would you read from your device or would rou rather print?
I read a lot, and I really don’t have a preference. Most of the novels I like, it’s hard to find them in Nigeria so I usually just download them. On the other hand, most of the instruction manuals and technical books I use are also not available here so I have to buy them online. When it comes to novels, I guess I don’t mind an ebook. But if it’s a technical book, hardcover please. The reason being, you have to go back and forth with a technical book, cross referencing etc. But with a novel, you just breeze through and enjoy yourself.
Ebooks rarely get lost. They don’t fade or tear. They don’t take up shelf space. My friend can’t borrow them and keep conveniently forgetting to bring them back when they come visiting next time to borrow another. Need I go on?
UPDATE:
They show up on my Kindle, iPhone and Mac, anywhere and anytime. I can stuff a ton of them in my pocket.
I literally LOLed when I read this. That’s part of the fun of owning books - being able to look at your shelf and feel…pride. Doesn’t feel the same when looking at a kindle screen. Nope.
Note: If you steal my books, you have a special place in hell.
Kindle makes it awesome reading ebooks. But then again there is a certain joy that comes with handling a real book. I bought a paper back book once, even after having the kindle edition.
