Have you ever thought that your voice was not being heard?
Well, there is this new social networking site that is not like the others. Why is it not like the others? Because it allows you to share your voice! “Orbs”, as they call them are short 15 - 20 seconds voice notes that you share with the world. It could a music freestyle or a freedom speech, it allows you to share anything. It also lets you add effects on your voice.
Think of it like instagram but just for voice.
Built by some University of Ibadan students(my alma mater ) and launched this year. It is called Orbi.
Just checked out the site and signed up. Love the landing page…nice.
This could be HUGE!.
If any of the Orb team is reading this, I’d just like to point out some things
A “Coming Soon” page from the Orbi games would definitely look better than a Privacy Policy that doesn’t lead one to check out the Games he/she clicked through the homepage for.
Haven’t uploaded any Orbs yet but wait…? 9 secs only? (that’s cos I’ve been clicking through user pages and listening to their posts) Ahn Ahn na, plix just increase the time limit. Or maybe not.
I noticed that even though I had set my location to Abuja, what shows up on my profile page is the timezone (Africa/Lagos) which cant be changed as at the time of typing this post.
Erm…your social links from within the “Settings” page don’t link to anywhere.
I don’t think Ive ever been this excited about a nigerian social network/app in recent times. I don’t even care if it has been done before. Yet to check out the Android app, would posts my thoughts on that when I do.
Shout out to the Orbi team. Incase y’all need a beta tester, holla! More power to your coding fingers
Thanks for the shoutout. I couldn’t agree with you more haha. I opened an Orbi thread a while back. Just curious, how did you find out about Orbi? Hope to see all of y’all on it very soon
We are focusing on short form content. Kind of like Twitter is 140 character, Vine is 6 secs etc. The point is not to fit a train of thought into 9 seconds but to break a train of thought into 9 second sound bites (hope that makes sense). You’ll find that once you get used to it, you can say a lot in 9 seconds.
Yeah, you can call it that. Short form is inherently more social and viral than long form. The app is built for quirky, funny, short bits of info that can go viral quickly.
Theoretically, you don’t have to sign up to Orbi to listen to an orb. Each orb has a link and web view. Also if you know a users handle, you can go to their profile and listen to their orbs. Hope that helps.
Hey dav, good one over there, my partner @Tomiwalker rushed downstairs and asked who Is Dav kalu and I was like a friend from my alma and he told ne anout your post, had to come out of my shell (coding) to join radar. Impressive. Kudos.
For anyone who hasn’t yet signed up but wants an idea of how the app is used, I’m going to include a couple of links to a few orbs I think show a range of different uses:
Its really up to the user how they want to use the platform. The more awesome the user, the more awesome the orbs. I use it for orbstorms; a voice version of tweetstorms, where I just go in on whatever is on my mind. You’ll find that breaking your thoughts into 9 second soundbites helps you focus your thoughts and cuts out all the unnecessary fat. Oh btw you can follow me @tomiwalker
