Competitor (a radarian) paid for fake 1-star reviews against my app

The strangest thing happened to me the other day. I got a handful of alerts from the playstore indicating users had given my app a poor review. I go to the playstore to respond to the users and the newly added reviews were gone.

About a week later, literally the same set of reviews are posted again by the same users. I look in my database and none of those names are present. Every day since then 3-5 of these 1-star reviews have been posted - and they are recycling the same set of false claims about my app.

After some detective work, I’ve found out who is behind this (In retrospect I should have known it would be this person/org since I already had a pretty strong suspicion that they paid for a sizable chunk of their reviews).

I have contacted Google and they are “looking into it” but I have my doubts about how successful I will be taking this route.

Does anyone here have experience dealing with such issues? If so what steps would you recommend I take to defend myself (that is - beyond writing a post on radar as a subtle thread to out the perp if they don’t call of their goons  )

If I’m reading this correctly, You said a competitor on radar did this to you.
Mind outing this person on radar. Might be pretty useful in preventing stuffs like this from happening to other people and maybe the said person can actually defend himself.

I was tempted to do that initially but decided against naming names just yet. I’m hoping he will do the right thing and put a stop to it.

This is superstoryyyy… a life of strife and sorrow… smh…
