If you even check us out you would see our prices come at a discount as it is and we offer free delivery within a distance
You’re so right. ALL the ‘deliver to Nigeria’ websites always collect my money first. One hasn’t delivered in a month but has collected my money
My guess is you don’t complain about politics, electricity, the rich man (Big man) just grin and bear it. well some of us are fighters and if ASKED let our feelings be known. Its that attitude of not complaining that has gotten nigeria in the state its in now…Ghana get rotation electricity of 12hours and are going crazy and screaming. A radio presenter said “what are they complaining about, we don’t have electricity for days and weeks, so why are they complaining”. Result will be this, in the near future Ghana wil sort this YOU or us will NOT complain and sit in the shit. Think about it son.
We have failed deliveries which have been our fault and some the customers, regardless we refund with no complaints. but i feel your pain
My guess is you accept defeat in the eyes of a challenge…I sense a trend in your mentally bro. You can always play, just challenge it. Like Andy Murray, semi finals his whole life then eventually things turn around, times change and turn a losing situation into a winning one. Stay strong and believe but don’t give up
First of all, I am not your son. The fact that you chose to end your point with that says a lot about your personality, I’ll be the bigger man and not go ad hominem on you. Wait, I just kind of did… oh well.
Second, Nigeria isn’t Russia or Cuba or Vietnam or something. Businesses are allowed to run the way they seem fit as long as their bottomline is happy for it. Go ahead. Yank off the option of cash on delivery from your website. Oh, you already did? Okay then. Shut up and stop whining. If you want to have a conversation, let me know when you have relevant analogies.
Oh wait, I seem to remember you did mention in your interview that people should go watch The Men Who Built America. Your comments here sound like the little guy running a small scale steel mill upset at Carnegie’s US Steel’s growth and business practices. If you don’t see the irony in that, then I have nothing else to say. Cheers.
LMBO…
Not fair mehn…I kinda had a feeling the Original post wasn’t the last I’d see the “the men who built America” reference. Brutal this one, but actually on point.
@lanre_akinlagun this isn’t a new argument so when you come off at every point with a bias that any contrary opinion is plain stupid, you get a good hook right in the gut.
Executives at Jumia or Konga aren’t entirely all duds, the simple truth is that COD, gets you more ‘coverage’, even when it fails at tying up those bleed points. So it simply comes down to companies that can afford it.
Dropping COD is hardly a visionary attempt, bruv, purely one of capacity.
PS: @lanre_akinlagun referenced your bravado in my earlier post, that it had an uncouth feel to it. Guess I was right. Your engagement so far lacks a lot. But eh…do you mehn. Cheers!
I am almost gay for @xolubi
Yes I will pay!
Interesting piece and this got me thinking of my payment strategy for my new project. The bottom line is trust and culture of responsibility. As a customer I expect the vendor to earn my trust by consistently meeting the promised standards, deliver to specification and on time and when there is failure of Service level agreement, I expect an easy and fast refund process. As long as e-commerce businesses continue to fail in delivering these 3 promises cash on delivery will always be the attractive option and reasons why some customer will ever buy online in Nigeria . Even when you insist on confirmed ordering, if your business model lacks these promises, you can be sure you are getting Zero repeat booking and bad PR. Lanre must realise customer is King and their trust is earned not free as well
i agreed with ur point. e-commerce companies must have a good return policies concerning orders and funds so as to build strong customer trust for their brand.KONGA AND JUMIA doing COD didnot even make profits for a while.
they are still unprofitable
Another downside of COD is the CASH HANDLING.if the customer agrees to pay for the order/items.the dispatch rider/driver will have to take the money to the Hub which is dangerous for everybody…the dispatch can run away with the money or they can be rob on the way considering the security situation in the country…the only advantage of COD is the high exposure and traffic.
Points noted, @greatwales. Thanks
Son was meant to be an endearing comment not insulting, I guess as you dont know me you don’t understand how I talk. No worries. You are a bit rude on an open forum and you missed all my points which were meant to encourage not insult. With regards to conversation and relevant analogy no problem I am always up for learning. So what company of your is it we are comparing so I cn do some research at least I wont come across wrong this time round. Do let me know Xolubi (Again, son is a term of friendship not insult)
I am being frank, not rude. You chose to make a plethora of generalizations about my personality simply because of how emotional you feel about your stance. It’s fine to firmly believe in decisions you take - I do the same too. But I wouldn’t go off topic the way you did. Of course son is not in any way endearing, particularly with the snide remarks that preceded it. My failure to get it was a failure in communication on your part. Like you said, it’s an open forum. Perhaps try “bro” next time if you really have to use endearments. Just remember you can totally make your point without those.
I must admit while I’m loving this (hey it’s Friday), but @xolubi and @lanre_akinlagun I’m sure you both are not taking this personal…and would have accepted my offer to share a pint of Guinness (except that I’m not offering )
I agree with @Ndianabasi. Stick with what is right. For me, COD is good and bad. Good for those who have money to play around with and bad for startups bootstrapping. However, for you to improve online payment it has to be eradicated but this can only be done if you as a service provider, deliver on your promise. I will say this - if you trust that the service you provide is top notch, the stay away from COD. Trust me, you would grow slowly but your brand name will be known for what you stand for -excellence.
@Ndianabasi I agree with all the comments that advise phasing out the COD system. The nice thing about Nigeria’s population is that there are many niches that exist within it. There is most definitely a niche audience that is willing to use an online-only payment service. Find the niche and focus your energy on them. Once you gain their trust, they will help spread the word for you and eventually it will become mainstream.
