My bad… Typos edited.
@Ubarab I’m actually not so much of a doctor you know. Picture Dr House, not with a scalpel, but a keyboard.
But I wouldn’t mind the scalpel too…
@Omar, More criticism you don’t need incoming…
What are you guys talking about? How exactly is the solution to creating an efficient educational tablet found in isolating the tablets’ users from the millions of resources available on Play Store? removing Play store actually creates more problems than the problem you believe it solves.
and you also want to remove Google Play Services which means other Google apps will not be available as well. So, your students will not be able to have a safe backup of their thesis on Google Drive? and the Geography students can’t leverage the power of Google maps? and the students won’t be able to watch tutorials on YouTube?
I don’t know the kind of education you think students are having these days or the kind of education you think they should be having but these services are pretty awesome and definitely make the life of a student easier. You probably believe that things were better when the cost of internet access was abominable and almost inaccessible and owning a computer was a myth. Things are better now and students should learn to live with these services.
If you want to make a learning tablet, how about making a tablet with a Huge battery life and a rugged exterior that will withstand the travails of studenthood. Every student will definitely want a tablet like that.
This is not as dramatic as you are making it seem.
I would believe Android as an OS was created to be universal for several mobile devices.
We have android tablets, mobile phones, and even android cookware (honeycomb).
Not taking anything from the project, there are several paths you could take with this.
When it comes to open source mobile OS there’s an option for an Ubuntu powered tablet with all the features the skinned down android has, in addition to a larger repository of tools, manuals and had core geek community.
There’s also the Firefox OS, and Samsungs nearly completed Tizen which may not be so open.
But I know very little about all of these things. I am just one learner seeking enlightenment.
What is the average age rating for resources available at the play store and how old will a child be in Primary 3 to JS1?
Youtube can be used to watch so many things right? Sex movies,movies and other things so if u got any idea on how to filter the videos please lemme know and what percentage of students in nigeria uses tutorials online and how many people have access to unlimited internet connection? We will be providing that. Last time i checked , about 75% of students both male and female have sex movies on their device…so youtube is out of it
@omar, @doctorfox @uduak @ubarab I appreciate your insights,
@waleoyediran thanks for the libs listed,
those libs are not crucial to at least one enterprise grade application I am familiar with.
like @doctorfox am also a learner and think @omar is on track please carry on.
I will volunteer my developer skills, my team and I have an enterprise grade application
waiting for a suitable hardware platform, sign me up please.
Okay please inbox me you skype username
Omar is right, there are apps you can use to replace google maps and google drive:slight_smile:
Uduak, why reinvent the wheel especially if you may end up with a square or oval wheel rather than round. If you wanted an indigenous tablet built, you’d still assemble in China so where’s the local content. The best selling software are APPs not OSs. From Omar’s assumption of team of 3 and his comment about all apps “need to communicate” with each other, I am not sure about his technical depth on the subject. APIs, services and messaging can and already connect Apps on android and share data eg xml, json, etc. He should build an App. I am working on a project in the same field and its an App. Remember that you can actually replace the android home screen screen with you custom dev so he DON’T need to fork the OS
