Heads up, I actually got an offer from them for a front-end position, rejected it. Referred them to a friend, friend finds out it was a contract gig and was let go after about 3 months. Be careful when negotiating and if you think you like contract gigs then fine.
They are indefinite contracts except if you have a temporary arrangement to provide a service. All team members not based in the US and Netherlands are contractors, because there are physical entities in those locations and there are plans to open more physical entities, it will be difficult at this stage to provide entities to support team members in over 30 countries, all contractors are supported by GitLab BV (Netherlands Entity) and You are entitled to every thing an employee is entitled to including stock options. Your friend was aware from the onset that its contract, because its stated and discussed during the interview.
Also Letting go is clearly based on performance. You can go through GitLab Handbook for more details on how we operate.
do you work for Gitlab?
Yes, a couple of months in.
where do you work from assuming you are remote?
From home in Bauchi, Bauchi State.
wow, blew my mind. No insults meant but I didn’t really think there are programmers from Bauchi state. Unless you didn’t grow up there.
10 years in Bauchi now, There are quite a few good ones, mostly based in the academic institutions.
Nice, what stack do you play with?
I currently work remotely for a startup in Germany from my home in Lagos as a front-end engineer.
Awesome! I spend alot of time on Google cloud (DNS, Compute, SQL, etc.). Work with PHP often, but my current role with GitLab involves Ruby on Rails and alot of DevOps. I am with the Service Engineering Team.
Nice. How did you hear about them?
While searching for a github alternative with unlimited private repos. Applied, and I was contacted after a couple of weeks for a screening call, then other interviews before I was made an offer.
LOL. There are many programmers in the North. I grew up in Maiduguri and schooled in Bauchi and I know many. I have a friend who runs a software company in Maiduguri.
